How do I get involved?
If your child is interested in taking part in any of the youth dance activities at The Place please email to join the youth dance mailing list.

The mailing list is used to advertise any youth activities at The Place, emails are sent detailing the specifics of each class or event and then bookings are taken on a first come first served basis. Once classes are full we enter ten children onto a reserve list for each class should any places become available within the academic year. These reserve lists begin anew each year.

Participants of holiday projects and workshops and siblings of existing students can be offered priority booking for Saturday classes on some occasions.

How does the Saturday programme work?
The Saturday programme is designed to train and nurture children and young people in contemporary dance technique and creativity through enjoyable classes where many dancers make new friends. The programme structure is set so that dancers may progress through the classes as they get older and gain more skills and experience, accessible classes for new comers are also available. Progression onto a new class usually happens at the end of an academic year when dancers have spent 1-2 years in a particular class.

We host a bi-annual show for Saturday classes to share their work with family and friends which takes place in the Robin Howard Dance Theatre based at The Place. On the years when the show is not taking place we endeavour to provide each class with an individual performance opportunity at festivals, events or other youth dance platforms in London.

Music plays an integral part in our programme and each class will experience a range of music including the opportunity to work with live musicians.

How do I pay Fees
Fees must be paid prior to term commencing unless otherwise agreed with a member of the administration team.

What if my child does not enjoy the class?
If your child decides the programme is not for them we can issue a refund providing we are notified by the second week of term and are able to fill their place.

Other circumstances will be considered and all are subject to a £10 administration charge.

Can Parents/Carers watch classes?
We do not permit parents to remain in the studios whilst classes are taking place as it can be unsettling and disruptive to the class. Opportunities to watch classes are offered at the end of term open days when family and friends are invited into the studios to watch the young dancers in action.

What to wear
Dancers should wear clothes that are comfortable to move in – not too tight or too baggy.  We suggest tracksuit bottoms, leggings or shorts and a t-shirt or leotard and footless tights. No shoes, jeans or jewellery are to be worn and long hair must be tied back.
