Richard Alston Dance Company has been nominated as Outstanding Company in the 2011 National Dance Awards, presented by the Critics' Circle.
The National Dance Awards are the UK's leading awards for achievement in dance. Richard Alston Dance Company has been nominated alongside English National Ballet, Mariinsky Ballet and Royal New Zealand Ballet for a new category, given to the best UK or international company seen in the country this year.
The recognition for RADC is one of a host of nominations for artists and works associated with The Place:
- Work Place artist Luca Silvestrini is nominated for Best Modern Choreography for his work LOL (lots of love), co-commissioned by The Place and seen here in March 2011.
- Luca's company Protein is nominated as Best Independent Company, and Sally Marie is nominated for Outstanding Female Performance (Modern) for her performances with the company.
- Fellow Work Place artist Rosemary Butcher's company is nominated as Best Independent Company.
- There are nominations for LCDS alumni Kim Brandstrup (Best Classical Choreography), Javier de Frutos (Best Modern Choreography) and Angela Towler (Outstanding Female Performance - Modern).
- Former Place Associate Artists Hofesh Shechter (Best Modern Choreography) and Maresa von Stockert (Best Independent Company) are also nominated for awards.
The winners of the 2011 National Dance Awards will be announced at a ceremony which is to be held, for the first time, at The Place. The event takes place on Mon 23 January 2012.
