For just over a week, a changing selection of artists from The Place will inhabit Bloomberg SPACE each day, showcasing the broad and diverse practices of contemporary dance.
COMMA40:THE PLACE includes an array of site-specific installations, performances, video documentations and impromptu one-off dances offering an unprecedented insight into the creative process of dance artists.
Internationally acclaimed choreographers, including Rosemary Butcher, Place Prize winner Ben Duke, Darren Ellis, Frauke Requardt, Rosemary Lee, Eva Recacha, Tony Adigun and Avant Garde Dance, Simon Ellis, Igor Urzelai and Moreno Solinas, Freddie Opoku-Addaie, Luca Silvestrini and Vera Tussing, will transform Bloomberg SPACE, reinventing the gallery each day with a rolling programme of residencies to make it their own creative space.
Filipe Alcada's video installation runs each day in the gallery. Reassemble was made in collaboration with choreographer Darren Ellis and Richard Alston Dance Company performer Hannah Kidd. Filmed, then digitised and dislocated, it's a dance piece merging two dance bodies, one male and one female. Reassemble is a film installation that explores the aftermath of an accident or trauma on a body, how the body has to find new connections and avoid damaged parts to reassemble itself. The result is a re-wired and changed individual raising questions about identity and our sense of self.
The final component is a repeating installation cycle on two screens featuring dance on film.
