The Place welcomes today’s Arts Council’s announcement of successful capital applications.

The Place is one of the eight organisations in London that have been admitted to the second phase of this new large scale capital funding programme, which will see proposed investment  totalling up to £53.7 million in these projects.

The Place’s proposed application is to ensure that its theatre space will continue to be relevant and comfortable to both artists and audiences. A new energy efficient heating system will also reduce the building’s running costs.

Kenneth Tharp, Chief Executive of The Place commented:
Whilst we understand that success at this stage does not guarantee that our Capital Project will be fully funded, it nevertheless brings us a significant step closer to realising our ambitions to further improve our carbon footprint and increase our energy efficiency, but also make changes to our theatre, which will include improving the ventilation and increasing the flexibility of settings. If realised, these changes will bring more choices to artists who wish to present their work in a number of ways and result in a richer variety of potential experiences, as well as greater comfort, for our audiences.
