London Premiere + Post-Show Q&A
Interwoven is the result of a two-year collaborative project featuring outstanding contemporary, flamenco and folk dancers and musicians from Spain, Bulgaria and United Kingdom. After a successful tour in Spain and Bulgaria, Interwoven arrives in London.
At the heart of this new contemporary dance work is a dynamic cultural dialogue across borders, a vibrant landscape where ritual is transformed, isolated, manipulated and re-integrated into a moving testament. Driving the piece is an original live score - a synthesis of sound between distinctly different rhythmic structures, melodies and motifs inspired by traditional music from Spain and Bulgaria. Lighting and digital projections provide an interactive arena for the dancers to weave through as they grapple with themes that are acutely modern: identity, displacement and communication.
LamatDance produce and perform ground-breaking contemporary and flamenco dance. The company’s creative identity is informed by the celebration of hybridisation and cultural diversity. The productions emerge from research that experiments with traditional rhythms and the use of flamenco footwork as a departing point for creating new choreographic vocabulary. LamatDance is based in London and Granada and was founded in 2001 by Spanish choreographer Carmen Vilches.
Funded by European Commission, Mandinga Arts, Diputación de Granada and Fabric.
