Richard Alston’s iconic Roughcut is danced to the peals of Steve Reich’s shimmeringly beautiful New York and Electric Counterpoints, for clarinet and guitar. If you could take only one piece of dance to a desert island, this would be it.
Richard Alston’s recent Unfinished Business is danced to the beautiful, lucid and flowing music of Mozart – the two movements of an unfinished piano sonata, Opus K533, played live. To these, Alston has added an extraordinary arrangement of Mozart’s brilliant Gigue in D by the Italian virtuoso Federico Busoni, creating a third movement and bringing things to a rousing close.
Richard Alston Dance Company is delighted to present A Ceremony of Carols, choreographed to Benjamin Britten’s masterpiece for voice and harp, for its US premiere. The music will be sung live by an all-female choir conducted by Montclair State’s Heather J. Buchanan, accompanied by harpist André Tarantiles.
A Ceremony of Carols was co-commissioned by The Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury; Sadler’s Wells and Peak Performances at Montclair State (NJ). Supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
