An international exchange of danced ideas...
Dance is a vehicle for ideas. Through performance, ways of seeing and thinking can cross borders and bridge cultures, trading in the common currency of a shared experience. Or at least: that’s the theory. A series of special evenings at The Place this November put it to the test.
At the centre of each evening is a double bill of new and acclaimed work by cutting-edge artists from continental Europe. Diverse in their style and inspiration, the six pieces all challenge their audience to interpret and respond to the action, to work with the artists to co-create meaning.
Surrounding these performances are opportunities for you to interact with other artists and audience members, and to discuss and reflect on the work you see. Your ticket includes dinner in The Place cafe, a short pre-show sharing of a dance ‘blind date’ between some of The Place’s resident Work Place artists their European peers.
Currency evenings create a fun, relaxed environment for sharing your thoughts and ideas about new work. What about it speaks to you? What does it say?
