Contemporary African dance draws from Africa's diverse movement styles, culture, and music. This class will help you understand some of the aesthetic values that shape African dance forms.

Akosua Boakye began her dance training at Laban on a diploma course and after a year pursued a degree at Roehampton Institute. Since graduating in 1997 she began work as a freelance dance artist choreographing and delivering African and Contemporary dance in primary, secondary schools and community as well as pursuing a professional qualification in teaching.

Over the years she has worked extensively on developing her style of African dance, a movement vocabulary that draws from Africa's diverse dance movement techniques, culture, and music. Through this she has worked with various organisations managing and delivering a range of African dance projects, currently she is working on the Lion King.
