These fun and informal classes are for students who have had some previous experience in contemporary dance. Level 1 is suitable for those who hold a basic understanding of the techniques involved but would like to develop their skills. These classes strive to build confidence, improve technique and increase participants dance vocabulary under the guidance of expert teachers.
This level 1 class is for students who want to improve technique, strength and self-expression. These classes encourage the full use of the spine and pelvis to rhythmical patterns of live drumming. Sessions will consist of centre work, floor work and travelling combinations culminating in a challenging dance sequence. Please note Level 1 is NOT for complete beginners.
Akosua Boakye began her dance training at Laban on a diploma course and after a year pursued a degree at Roehampton Institute. Since graduating in 1997 she began work as a freelance dance artist choreographing and delivering African and Contemporary dance in primary, secondary schools and community as well as pursuing a professional qualification in teaching.
Bookings are now being taken for the Spring term Sat 7 January - Fri 23 March. You can still attend the class by using your Carnet Card or by dropping in.
Full price term enrolment is £99. If you qualify for the concession rate (£85 per term), bring proof of status to the Classes and Courses office when you attend class at The Place and we will refund the difference.
