Music is at the very heart of Richard Alston’s dance making, and this season sees the master choreographer’s company embrace a diverse selection of 20th century classics by Igor Stravinsky, Hoagy Carmichael and Philip Glass.
Blow Over races along to the exhilarating pulse of Songs From Liquid Days by Philip Glass -- urgently driven music to which the dancers have to fly to keep up, in great leaping arcs of energy.

Stravinsky’s brilliant use of folk melody highlights the busy to and fro of a Carnival fair. In stark contrast, the isolation of the puppet Petrushka is all the more anguished. In Movements From Petrushka, Alston’s skillful reworking of images from the ballet Petrushka is specially revived this year to mark the centenary of Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes.

Shuffle It Right features a collection of songs from Hoagy Carmichael including Riverboat Shuffle, Georgia, Old Man Harlem and Star Dust. This toe-tapping, knee-jiggling music gets the whole company moving.
