Originally from Finland, Tanja Råman has been working in South Wales as a choreographer and dancer since 2004. Tanja trained at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in 1997-2000, and received MSc Dance Science at Laban in 2003.
She has performed internationally in numerous productions for Marie-Gabrielle Rotie, Sean Tuan John, Jane Munro & GeneLily, Monika Koch and HarnischLacey dance theatre. Her choreographic work focuses on the complexity of movement sequencing within the body and the continuous integration of abstraction and emotion. Her most recent works include: Kaiho (2004) – solo commissioned by Welsh Independent Dance; Umbilica (2005) – trio commissioned by Diversions Dance Company; Kaihokaksi (2006) – re-developed solo work; Kuuluako (2006) – duet commissioned by Welsh Independent Dance for its Spring tour 2006. Tanja has also received a grant from Arts Council of Wales for a research and development project – Keho, which will take place in August 2006. Tanja currently lectures on the dance degree course at University of Wales Institute Cardiff.
