This course is not based on delivery of a set syllabus, but equips teachers to deliver confident, creative dance training to the highest Conservatoire standard. Graduates have the skills and experience to develop a high standard of dance provision, or to contribute to a major dance academy at the highest level. Dance Training and Education students work with the rest of the postgraduate year group in Research Lab seminars and subsidiary studies.
The Dance Training and Education course is suitable for those with substantial performance experience of a professional standard and some experience of teaching, who wish to develop their current teaching practice. Applications are equally welcome from those who teach classical forms as well as contemporary work – students from a range of disciplines have successfully completed the course. Students study the effective design and delivery of vocational training courses, incorporating a thorough understanding of somatics and applied biomechanics which lead to safe, sustainable dance practice. Throughout the course, the holistic development of individuals is emphasised, together with the reflective practice characteristic of study at postgraduate level.
This course may be taken part-time, to accommodate the working schedules of mature students.
