Yakult sponsored the Essential Alston educational programme in 2004 as part of their philosophy of “working on a healthier society.” This was a series of dance workshops, conducted in schools. By taking class, learning repertoire, and creatively experimenting with material, participants were offered a flavour of the technical and choreographic style of Richard Alston. This programme ran parallel to the Richard Alston’s Dance Company’s national tour. Essential Alston successfully ran 49 workshops, reaching 1,000 participants throughout the UK. Publicity materials including a nutritional booklet were produced for every participant.
