The Place Report

The Place published annually each autumn a report looking at some of the highlights of its past year, celebrating the ongoing success of our work and acknowledging the funders and supporters who make it possible.

Copies of these reports can be downloaded using the links on the right.

The Place Report 2007 comes out as The Place is entering a new era. In September 2007 Kenneth Olumuyiwa Tharp took up the new role of Chief Executive, returning to The Place, where he trained and made his name as one of the finest dancers of his generation with the legendary London Contemporary Dance Theatre. Together with the new Chair, Sir Tim Lankester, our governors and all our staff, Kenneth is leading our drive to greater future success.

2008 sees the opening of two new studios, completing the latest, £1.3 million development of our facilities, and providing over 7,000 extra studio hours each year to be used by young people, students and professional artists.

Our growth is made possible by vital financial support from a wide range of organisations and individuals. Continuing support  from them and from others is key to our future success: to lead the development of contemporary dance as an artform which resonates and engages with today’s world.

‘As a student and as a dancer, I had the huge privilege of experiencing first-hand the pioneering work of The Place led by giants like Robin Howard and Robert Cohan, and of working with many other remarkable individuals. The Place will continue – must continue – to inspire, as a magnet for extraordinarily talented and diverse artists, as a beacon of access and excellence and an exemplar of support and creativity.’

Kenneth Olumuyiwa Tharp, Chief Executive
