The Place Prize for dance, sponsored by Bloomberg, is the UK's biggest and most prestigious choreography prize. Over 10 nights in April 2011, four works selected from 16 commissions and nearly 200 entries will compete for £35,000 of prize money.
The finalists of The Place Prize are:
Riccardo Buscarini & Antonio de la Fe Guedes Cameo
Ben Duke & Raquel Meseguer It Needs Horses
Freddie Opoku-Addaie & Frauke Requardt Fidelity Project
Eva Recacha Begin to Begin: a piece about dead ends
They include the most popular piece commissioned for The Place Prize as voted for by the audience, together with three works selected by a panel of dance experts.
All four works will be performed each night during The Place Prize Finals, and the audience will vote for their favourite work, which wins a nightly prize of £1,000. After the final performance, the overall winner, as selected by a new panel of judges, will be announced, and presented with £25,000.
The Place Prize is a celebration of the creativity and excellence of the UK choreographers. In four editions to date, it has enabled the creation of 76 original works, and invested over £1million in new British dance.
