Student Loans
All UK and EU students are able to apply for some form of loan from the Student Loan Company. UK students are eligible to apply for a tuition fee loan and/or a maintenance loan. EU students are eligible to apply for a tuition fee loan.
UK students that opt to ‘consent to share’ information when completing the student loan application will automatically be considered for a means tested bursary from the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama.
UK students will also be considered for a maintenance grant as a result of completing the student loan application form (even if it is not the applicant’s desire to obtain a student loan). This grant exists to support students with accommodation and other costs while enrolled as a full-time student.
For more information about, or to apply for a student loan, please explore the following website: www.direct.gov.uk
To assist with your completion of the student loan application, please make a note of the following details.
- As LCDS does not utilize UCAS services, all questions relating to this information should be left blank with the exception of the UCAS Course Code which should be listed as ‘ACPU’.
- The University/College name and address should be listed in the following way:
Conservatoire for Dance and Drama
London Contemporary Dance School
17 Duke’s Road
London
WC1H 9PY - Leave blank the question that asks if your course is franchised to another university.
Student loan repayment begins during the April after you leave your course and will be set at 9% of any income you make over £15,000. Individuals not making more than £15,000 will not have to make any loan payments. Interest on a student loan accrues from the day the loan is paid out until the loan is paid in full.
Letter Writing Campaign
We actively encourage any interested student to embark upon a letter-writing campaign to relevant funding bodies. Searchable databases like FunderFinder (available in the LCDS library) will help to match students with any Trust or Charity that routinely distributes bursaries to assist students with the cost of higher education. The Student Support staff will be more than happy to assist you in writing a letter for this purpose (our contact information can be found at the bottom of this page).
LCDS is grateful to already receive funding from several trusts that are consequently unlikely to consider individual requests for support. For this reason, please refrain from contacting the following organisations:
- The Leverhulme Trust
- The Eranda Foundation
- The John Lyons Charitable Trust
- The Craignish Trust
- The South Square Trust
- The Harold Hyam Wingate Charitable Foundation
Fund for Excellence
The Fund for Excellence (FFE) is a donor supported fund that exists to assist students with tuition, maintenance or other costs. All undergraduate students are able to apply each and every term that they are enrolled. Application forms are made available by week 3 of any given term, with bursary decisions made by about week 7.
There are two main criteria that guide bursary award decisions, the first is the applicant's level of need and the second is any effort that the applicant has undertaken to mitigate their need. Steps that students often take to mitigate their need could include employment (both during the summer and term-time), sound financial planning, and undertaking a letter-writing campaign.
Applicants will be required to complete a budget for the year that demonstrates the funding that they have coming in and the amount of money that they expect to have to spend.
To be eligible to apply to the FFE, applicants must have taken their full entitlement of any student loan that is available to them.
