Applying for a Visa
Any non EU student who wishes to study at LCDS on one of our degree-seeking programmes will need to apply for a Tier 4 (General) visa. As this process can take several months, it is important to begin the application process as early as possible.
As all visa applicants will present unique circumstances, it is impossible to list all of the factors that you may need to consider when applying. However, we have listed some of the most important components of the application process below.
Issuing the CAS
Once you have confirmed your place on one of our programmes (by paying the deposit), the Student Support Services Office will issue you with what is known as a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies). Your CAS will include an identification number that is specific to you and which you will need to include on your visa application form. In order for us to produce your CAS, you will need to have sent to us the following:
• A copy of your most recent degree certificate.
• An original copy of your most recent transcript.
• A copy of the photo page of your passport.
Your CAS will list those documents that we have used to determine your eligibility for acceptance to one of our courses. You will be required to submit these same documents when you apply for your visa.
Evidence of Financial Ability
You will be required to prove that you have recourse to enough funds to cover the cost of one year's worth of tuition, plus a minimum of nine month's worth of maintenance (for institutions within inner London, maintenance is set at £800 per month).
For the 2010/11 academic year, these requirements equate to £21,890. Any tuition paid to LCDS, or any award made from the LCDS Fund for Excellence prior to commencing the visa application process will be indicated on your CAS therefore reducing the amount of funding you are required to prove.
You must then be able to demonstrate that any remaining funds required have been held in your name for a consecutive 28-day period or can be furnished by a guaranteed source such as:
• A loan letter.
• Evidence of money held by a parent or legal guardian and evidence that confirms you are related to them.
• A bank statement that fulfils the 28-day rule mentioned above.
