The Place, the UK’s premier centre for contemporary dance, is hosting a half-day event to present LearnPhysical Interactive, its ground-breaking research project into new ways of teaching and learning in Primary education, on Tuesday 12 October from 2 – 5pm.

Over the past 20 years, The Place, together with other dance practitioners, has played a leading role in developing multi-sensory, cross-curricular teaching practice: using movement and touch as well as sights and sounds to help children learn.

LearnPhysical Interactive takes this practice further: developing an approach to deliver high-quality cross-curricular lessons in any subject area, which integrates the use of interactive whiteboard and handheld digital device technology. The project also includes a model of professional development to help teachers make the approach their own and integrate it into their normal teaching style.

LearnPhysical Interactive has been developed over the past two years in pilot projects run in Primary schools in Camden and Lewisham, supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and in partnership with the Open University.

The seminar on Tuesday 12 October is for anyone interested in Primary education or how creative practices can engage and inspire young people (and their teachers). The event will include a short film about the project, and presentations from the teachers, artists and school leaders who have been involved.

Places at the LearnPhysical Interactive event are free, but must be booked in advanced by emailing or calling 020 7121 1036.
