Graduated 1988

What have you been doing since you graduated?
Soon after leaving LCDS I went to New York City to study at the Merce Cunningham Dance Studio, while working and performing with a number of independent contemporary choreographers. I then completed a degree in Psychology, and began working in the film business, and I’ve been a producer for documentary and short films since.

I spent five years in Berlin, where I was the Associate Producer for a short film collection. Moving back to New York, I worked with the legendary documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles for another five years, amongst others, on the production of The Gates, a project for Central Park by Christo and Jeanne-Claude, the documentary The Beales of Grey Gardens. Since, I have worked for National Geographic, on a number of international documentaries and for clients such as the BBC. Living in New York allows me to work in film and television production alongside continuing my dance studies with Barbara Mahler, teacher of the Klein/Mahler technique. For the last seven years I’ve also been a member of Sally Gross’ company, a veteran downtown choreographer and one of the first members of the Judson Dance Theatre in the early 60s. In 2007 I produced Sally Gross – The Pleasure of Stillness, by Albert Maysles and editor Kristen Nutile. The film premiered at the Locarno Film Festival, was invited to a number of European and US film festivals and broadcast on US television, WNET, Channel Thirteen, and is now available on DVD through Reframe Collection. I am fortunate to have been able to combine my interests in dance with my film production skills.

What projects are you currently working on?
I am a Producer for the Brazilian choreographers-turned-filmmakers Rosane Chamecki and Andrea Lerner (aka chameckilerner) working with filmmaker Phil Harder. I have been in charge of managing, distributing and promoting their first award winning film Flying Lesson, which won the Dance on Camera Jury Prize in 2008.

Since then I have produced four more shorts with the team, amongst them Conversation with Boxing Gloves which was commissioned by the NYC performing arts festival Perform 09 together with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Phil Harder’s Jackie & Judy which premiered at NYC’s Dance on Camera 2010 Festival.

What excites you the most about the Alumni Network?
The Alumni Network gives alumni the opportunity to connect with former friends and colleagues and I’m really excited by the possibility of making new connections and exploring collaborations across disciplines. I would be very interested to hear from alumni who are also working in film and video, on the producing and creating side.
