On the BA programme students are given the opportunity to study how their art form interfaces with design and music and this interrelationship with other art forms is a particular strength of our choreographic approach. Improvisation work interweaves with choreographic study throughout the BA with partnerwork being a distinctive feature of the Improvisation work at the School.

Contextual Studies
Contextual Studies consists of a range of courses which position dance within an interdisciplinary context to support the student’s physical knowledge, and to increase their awareness of the cultural landscape surrounding the art form. Music is an integral part of study, and the music courses are designed to enhance both dance performance and choreography skills.

In addition to Performance and Technical Studies, Choreographic Studies, and Contextual Studies, the programme offers a module in Professional Studies, which seeks to prepare students for the range of career options available to them. For first years, the course focuses on study skills, budgeting and personal management, while third years work on mock auditions, project planning, and other topics to enable them to launch themselves into the dance profession.
