Auditions

All suitable applicants will be invited to attend an audition, either at The Place in London, or at an overseas audition in Verona, Bilbao or USA. We understand that auditions can make candidates feel nervous, but staff at LCDS will do everything they can to make you feel welcome, and to help you do as well as you can at your audition.
Students are very welcome to contact us at any time before audition for an informal discussion, or to arrange a visit to LCDS. A non-refundable audition fee of £30 is payable on application.

Stage One (Part One) – The Initial Audition

The first stage of the audition consists of:

  • Class work: ballet barre and contemporary technique.
  • A short solo, one minute maximum, preferably choreographed by the candidate. Students may give a short introduction to their piece.

Stage One (Part Two)

Some candidates may be asked to stay for an interview and physical examination.  Candidates not invited to stay for interview may still be invited to the recall audition.

At the end of the Audition Day, the panel make one of the following decisions:

  1. To investigate the candidate’s suitability for the course further by inviting them to a recall audition.
  2. That our training is not suited to the student’s current training needs.
  3. In rare circumstances, to offer the candidate a place immediately.

Stage Two – The Recall Audition

Candidates invited to join a recall audition will usually be invited to take further classes, and may be asked to show their solo again. Some students will also be asked to attend an interview at this stage.

Short periods of study with credit transfer
Students who meet an appropriate technical standard and who are registered on dance degree programmes may apply to the School for short periods of study of up to one year, for which credit may be assigned or transferred. Further details may be obtained by writing directly to the Admissions Officer.
