In Choreodrome 2009 there are four Directed Research Opportunities. These can form a package with the self-directed research or can be applied for in their own right.

Choreodrome is intended as an opportunity to research ideas and possibilities without the pressure of a formal performance at the end of the process. It is also a time to come together as an artistic community, to have a dialogue with your collaborators, your work and those who are working around you. As the making process can be all-consuming it is also important to take the time to feed the mind with other influences and thoughts and spend time learning from others to enrich the process. We hope that the directed strand of Choreodrome gives participants the opportunity to take a breath and at the same time meet other inquiring minds.

The Directed Research will begin on 13 July with a two-week investigation into composition with Matteo Fargion. In the last week of July there is the opportunity to spend two days exploring the integration of voice and movement with Guy Dartnell. Chisato Ohno will be introducing the principles of Ohad Naharin of Batsheva’s GAGA technique for three days in mid August; and Rosalind Crisp will, in the last week of August, be focussing on interrogating the individual habits of improvisation as a technique to generate movement.

Applicants are invited to apply for as many or as few workshops as they wish, they are free and it’s not necessary to have applied for the self-directed strand. Each workshop is structured according to what best suits the content and therefore each one is varied. Please note all details carefully, participants will be expected to attend all sessions of the workshops they are attending. All workshops are suitable for both choreographers and dancers who are based in the UK.
