Stampede (2002)

An image from Richard Alston's 'Stampede'
Alternately haunting and exhilarating, these powerful dance pieces are set to the exotic Moorish-influenced sounds of Italian medieval music, arranged by the highly inventive early music ensemble The Dufay Collective.

"Hot, dark and a little dangerous…you can almost see the music stirring a fever in the performers' blood"
The Guardian

Touch and Go (2002)

An image from Richard Alston's 'Touch and Go'
Capturing the spirit of Tango Nuevo as embodied in the masterly music of Astor Piazzolla, TOUCH AND GO is tango for the 21st century: passionate, sensual and sophisticated.

"An unexpected pleasure…sheer, joyful spontaneity"

The Sunday Times

Water Music (2001)

Danced to the hugely famous suite by Handel, WATER MUSIC carries the company along on a wave of crisp melody and speedy rhythm. From start to finish WATER MUSIC pulses with energy; rarely has music been so sunny and direct, so sure in its sense of pleasure.

"Water Music has a joyful, majestic quality with Alston treating this giant of the classical canon with the grandeur it deserves"
The Scotsman

Strange Company (2001)

The disturbed world of the composer Robert Schumann has inspired Alston's STRANGE COMPANY. Swirling with romantic fervour but haunted by the menacing characters dreamed up in the composer's troubled imagination, this is indeed music possessed.

"An entrancing new dance… bold, urgent and poetic, catching the inflammable passions and poetic sensibility of the 19th century"
The Daily Telegraph

Soda Lake (Revival 2001)

An image from Richard Alston's 'Soda Lake'
The cool and serene Soda Lake conjures up the stillness and the shimmering heat of the Nevada desert. Alert and watchful, a single dancer paces out his territory against the minimal lines of Nigel Hall's sculpture.

"The emotional intensity generated by Alston's lone dancing figure…seizes you by the throat"
Independent on Sunday
