EDge 2009, the postgraduate performance company of London Contemporary Dance School, will embark on a 18-city international tour this Spring. The tour begins on 24 March at the Harrogate Theatre and culminates in a week-long residency at Casa des Artes in Portugal in July. EDge also performs at its home theatre, The Place’s Robin Howard Dance Theatre in London, from 18 to 20 May.
The repertoire for the tour features original work created especially for EDge by acclaimed young dancemakers including Award-winning former Stephen Petronio Company dancer Jeremy Nelson, H2 Dance’s Hanna Gillgren and Slovenian choreographer Andreja Rauch, formerly of Charles Linehan Company. EDge will also present a selection of shorter works by up-and-coming dance artists Jesús Rubio Gamo, Javiera Peón-Veiga and James Jackson together with Maria Jardardottir.
As ambassadors for London Contemporary Dance School, one of Europe’s leading conservatoires, EDge have been invited to participate in several continental arts festivals this year. For the first time, the company will perform at the Isadora Duncan Center for Dance in Athens (30 April) and the International Arts Festival in Cyprus (19-20 June). EDge will also return to Denmark, Sweden, France and Portugal for residencies and performances.
This year, the dancers of EDge are drawn from around the UK as well as the US, Greece and Spain and are all recent graduates from the world’s finest dance conservatoires. The year the students spend in the company forms the main part of their Postgraduate Diploma in Performance at London Contemporary Dance School, and gives them invaluable experience of rehearsing and touring as a professional company.
EDge performs each year at its home, the Robin Howard Dance Theatre at The Place; this year from 18-20 May. Tickets are £5 - £15 and can be booked by calling The Place Box Office on 020 7121 1100 or online at www.theplace.org.uk.
