The annual Camden Schools Dance Festival connects young people in schools from across Camden, who share a passion and enthusiasm for dance. Twenty professional dance artists have been working with twenty different schools in street, South Asian, contemporary, creative and folk dance styles. The festival takes place on Monday 8 February with performances at 1.30pm & 6pm, and celebrates a mix of dance styles and music.
This year the project has been funded by London Sport and is supported by the Camden Dance Development Group, which include the partner organisations: Akademi, B-Better, English Folk Dance & Song Society, icandance, London Borough Camden, The Place and The Surma Centre. This funding enabled most of the schools involved to work with the partner organisations through a series of workshops to create the dance works performed.
The festival offers a special experience for these local, young people to work with a professional production team and perform in a internationally renowned dance venue. The Place will welcome eighteen schools, both Primary and Secondary, plus one community group to The Place on Mon 8 February.
The 6.30pm performance has now sold out but there are tickets available for the 1.30pm performance.
