I had created my first duet, Beautiful Dance, with Albert Quesada and Resolution was the place where everybody took their work in 2008.

A very memorable moment was becoming aware that my work had very little resemblance with the UK scene work and I was nervous about it. Eventually after our show an audience member wrote a letter of complaint to John Ashford. A year later I met John Ashford on a tram in Brussels. We had not really met before, I introduced myself and he told me about the letter he wrote in defence of our show. I have a print out of it in my flat still today!
Absolutely nothing. It was a great moment of confirmation that my/our work is like marmite, not everybody's taste. But those who like it are as vocal in their support as their opponents - and if things are fragile I think it's important to turn on a slightly selective hearing.
We received a great review that night by Keith Watson ( 14 Feb 2008) . He called our work an 'understated delight' and press has an impact...so for once we benefited from that!

My friend and colleague Petra Söör said to me after we presented our first show at The Royal Opera House, Linbury Studio, the same duet we showed at Resolution: "Vera this is a moment to put into a box, remember it when things look less promising." I revisit that box frequently!
