Richard Alston Dance Company returns to the Stadthalle in Nuess Germany for the first time in nearly two decades.
★★★★★ 'Echoing cheers for Alston and his dancers' Financial Times, March 2016
Alston’s latest work is inspired by the sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti, a composer hugely influenced by Spanish music. An Italian in Madrid continues Alston’s fascination with the fusion of different cultures and styles and to explore this, Alston has invited BBC Young Dancer grand finalist Vidya Patel to join his company for this exciting new work.
★★★★ ‘A marriage made in heaven’ Observer, (on the premiere of An Italian in Madrid) March 2016
The programme also includes two short (but unforgettable) works by Richard Alston Dutiful Ducks and Isthmus Remix. To close the evening Richard Alston’s Nomadic mixes Asian-influenced traditional Romany singing with the toughness of an urban beat. To explore the interaction between gypsy music and urban sound, Alston has collaborated with the choreographer Ajani Johnson-Goffe in a career first.
“Nomadic shines out like a beacon… recognisably Alston but possesses new ingredients in choreography that articulates the music superbly in a spicy blend of movement…It’s a tremendous ensemble piece” London Dance (Nomadic), Jan 2015
