Meet our team: today we welcome Reece McMahon as Trainee Producer

We're thrilled to introduce Reece, who is on a year-long Weston Jerwood Creative Bursary working as Assistant Producer in the Theatre and Artist Development team. There are 40 Weston Jerwood Bursaries happening nationwide who were selected through an open call application process. As well as funding the bursary roles, the scheme includes professional development opportunities and training to all of the cohort – The Place will be hosting the first day of these on Wednesday 28 February.

Reece graduated from London Contemporary Dance School in 2017 with an ambition to develop a career as an arts producer. He has already worked with The Place and Avant Garde Dance on their hit show Fagin's Twist and with the Independent Street Artists Network on their huge bi-annual outdoor arts festival. Now, he is excited to be continuing his next step in the industry as Assistant Producer at The Place where he aims to continue his development in one of the UK’s most exciting venues, all because of the amazing opportunity the Weston Jerwood Creative Bursary provides.

‘I’m thrilled to be returning to the building where I trained and saw many memorable, thought provoking and performances. To be given the opportunity to develop bold, new work with incredible artists in London’s busiest dance venue is an exciting prospect. I can’t wait to join the team and support the creation of work that has the potential to change people’s lives in the way it did mine when I first visited the venue any years ago.’ Reece McMahon

We're passionate aboout supporting the development of dance as an artform and to do this we are investing in the people behind the scenes who play an essential role in in the process.

Eddie Nixon, Director of Artist & Theatre Development say's 'There’s not enough producers in don’t get these university hook-ups between creative people and people who want to be producers, like in theatre.'

This is an area we have been researching into and testing different models via our Hothouse programme and more recently Pivot Dance, you can read more about this in an article by Maddie Costa on Exuent.
