The Critics Circle National Dance Critics Awards 2013 took place this afternoon in the Robin Howard Dance Theatre at The Place.
The award for best modern choreography award went to Russell Maliphant for ‘Fallen’ which he created for the BalletBoyz touring company The Talent.
Paul White received the award for outstanding male modern performance for Meryl Tankard’s The Oracle and Julie Cunningham won the outstanding female modern performance for New Works 2012 with the Michael Clark Company.
Dance Hurst at Rambert Dance Company won the Dancing Times award for Best Male Dancer.
In the classical side of things awards went to choreographer Christopher Wheeldon for the Aeternum at the Royal Ballet, outstanding classical performance awards were given to Nicolas Le Riche in the male category for Le Jeune Homme et la Mort with the English National Ballet, and Yuan Yuan Tan in the female group for RAkU at the San Francisco Ballet. The Mikhailovsky Ballet had success with an award for the outstanding company and Natalia Osipova named as best female dancer.
Special achievement awards were also presented to Matthew Bourne and Leanne Benjamin.
