October Workshops at CAT

At the Centre for Advanced Training, October brought some exciting workshops for the young students to explore and experience new impulses and grow their skillset in various sessions custom made for their age group.

Creative SET 1, the youngest students, were working with CAT Alumnus, CAT teaching assistant and LCDS Alumnus Lewis Cooke. Lewis was selected from a growing pool of CAT Alumni to represent new, emerging artists now working in the field. In his workshops Lewis introduced the CAT students to his practise RelaxtoErupt, which has spread across London, Dundee and Athens. RelaxtoErupt is a full bodied physically demanding practise which focuses on moving between 0% - 100% of energy. Relaxation in the movement is as vital as the explosive moments. They young students trained in floor work and standing phrases with the emphasis on finding opposition in the body and releasing tension in the hips, chest and head. The class is evolving as Lewis is eager to develop his understanding of the body while shifting through the space finding unlimited possibilities.

Creative SET 2 worked with Ingrid Mackinnon of Uchenna Dance, who are in the building creating our family show Hansel &Gretel for the festive season and were teaching the CAT students as part of their wrap around activity here at The Place.

Creative SET 3 participated in workshops with Rambert School, London Studio Centre, Central School of Ballet, Middlesex, Chichester & Roehampton Universities respectively.

Creative SET 4 have been creating a piece with Colleen Joseph on behalf of Startin’ Point Festival, coordinated by Hannah Waters & Hakeem Onibudo. Their work was shared during the festival as part of the FUTURE 4YOUTH initiative. They are also performing the piece again on Sat 17th Nov as part of LIVEVIBE

Creative SET 5, our graduates for this academic year, got ready for auditions by participating in our annual National CAT Audition Toolkit on Weds 24, Thurs 25 & Fri 26 attending sessions on solo preparation, mock classes, resilience and interview techniques at LCDS, TL & NSCD.
