Q&A with Matt Lackford

Meet Matt Lackford, who will be teaching our Contemporary Floorwork short course on Wednesday evenings.

"I first started dancing because my acting lessons were cheaper if I also took dance and my stage school! From then on I have always been interested in movement, the body and combining these creatively. I focused on contemporary dance when I first went to college in Leeds, and by the time I left I was hooked. I love the freedom to create and move as well as the variety of techniques and teachings you can emerge yourself in.

When teaching, I love getting to meet people and learning from them. I am a great believer that you are never done learning. So, when I have the opportunity to work with a group of people, I always come away with something new, which is very rewarding.

The thing I am most looking forward to about my classes at The Place is simply being back in the building, I live up north these days. Coming back into the organised chaos of meeting old and new friends, catching up on the London world of dance and just being in a building where everyone, regardless of which class you are taking, is there for the love of dance.

My advise to anyone who wants to come and join in, but might be a little nervous, is just come in and try. It's only dance. You’ll meet like minded people who were all nervous when they first stepped into class. You’ll make new friends, experience new things and make your life richer because you tried. So what are you waiting for?"
