We're excited to announce that two leading performers from the Caracas hip hop community, Eric Pena and Jelena Cobis will travel to London to take part in the next London edition of LIVEVIBE Samples & Interpolations on Saturday 2 December 2017 at 7.30pm.
This edition of LIVEVIBE celebrates iconic original music, using popular samples from songs today. Choreographers will create their own artistic Hip Hop interpretations of the music. Expertly MC’d by Hakeem “Mr. Impact” Onibudo the show features: Boy Blue Entertainment, Impact Dance and poet Ana Paz, as well as fresh exciting work from Ajani Michael Johnson-Goffe, Yukiko Masui, Myself UK Dance Company and Nathan (Neo) Gordon featuring Urdang Academy, Eric Pena and Jelena Cobis.
LIVEVIBE at The Place is part of a series of performances, which include a Festival of Hip Hop and Dance of the African Diaspora in 2018 and a series of Youth Dance and Music collaborations led by performer, choreographer and British Council ambassador Hakeem Onibudo as part of an 18 month Arts Council England Change Makers programme.
Speaking of the collaboration with Hakeem Onibudo and the Change Makers award, The Place’s Director of Theatre and Artist Development Eddie Nixon said:
‘Hakeem shares The Place’s belief that watching, learning and making dance can make a huge difference to people’s lives. Initiatives and interventions such as this accelerate change and can only enrich the creativity and output of the arts in the UK.’
Hakeem Onibudo said about the project:
‘For me LIVEVIBE represents community, life and hope. From Sadler’s Wells to Rich Mix to Hong Kong to Venezuela to North Africa to Zimbabwe, it has affected many lives in a positive way. It gives back to the community of dance and allows artists to express themselves in a non-intimidating environment. In the case of the Caracas edition it gave hope to 50 young people living in total turmoil in their home city.’
