We want young people living and learning in Camden to connect with The Place. We want them to explore and enjoy dance as makers, performers & viewers. In academic year 2016-17 we piloted an exciting new project to #GetCamdenDancing through partnering with four primary schools to help us realise our vision. In 2017-18 we continued these existing partnerships and created one more.

"This was the best visit I have taken children on in many years. Every single child participated in dance, as did the teachers! Everyone made us so welcome and coming to The Place made me, as a non-specialist teacher, believe that I could deliver dance lessons to my pupils. The genuinely inclusive and creative atmosphere made us all come away feeling inspired and empowered. I can't recommend it highly enough" Year 5 teacher

"I have learned so much as a teacher about how to teach and plan dance. Thank you. This experience, in addition to our staff training, has really increased my confidence to teach dance." Year 2 teacher

"It was one of the best INSETs I have ever attended." Year 4 teacher

Through the continued generous support of John Lyon’s Charity, we’re going to be growing our Partner schools programme in academic year 2018-19.

Partner Schools in our home borough can access a range of activities for their learners and teachers in one discounted package. School leaders and teachers can decide how the provision is shared across the school to meet their own needs. Schools are able to use PE and Sport Premium Funding for the programme – click here for more details. The Partner School package costs £950 (+VAT) and in 2018-19 it will include:

  • A half-day welcome/introductory tour for 2 class groups at The Place to kick off the partnership in Autumn
  • 16 hours of in-school creative dance sessions for the two classes, led by our skilled dance artists/educators to create performance work
  • A day of performance at The Place as part of the Camden Schools Dance Festival (where both classes will perform their performance work)
  • A 1 hour performance and Q&A in your school with students from London Contemporary Dance School
  • 50% off tickets to mid-week matinees at The Place Theatre
  • 1.5 – 3 hours of bespoke teacher CPD, designed to suit the needs of either the whole staff group or specific class teachers

As an incentive to develop a long-term partnership, and with an awareness of planned changes to the school funding, we will reduce the charge to each Partner School by at least £50 per year for each subsequent consecutive year you continue with the programme. As you’ll be aware, the activity in any one year of the partnership would act as evidence for multiple criteria of an Artsmark application, and the continuation of the partnership would also enhance any application for the higher levels of the award. If you'd like to discuss joining the Partner School programme for 2018-19, please get in touch: learning@theplace.org.uk
