  • The Place announces alternative programme for Autumn and Spring 20/21

    9 Sep 2020

A blended model of live and digital dance activities will continue until April 2021

Due to the continuing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the restrictions on audiences, artists and participants, The Place has adapted its activity to a reduced and flexible programme for Autumn 2020 and Spring 2021. Instead of its full live performance programme, it will offer audiences a fresh blend of live and digital experiences, curated around questions and themes which are important to us all right now.

  • Covid-19 impact on our organisation

    1 Sep 2020

The impact of the pandemic has resulted in serious financial challenges for The Place.  It has required us to work tirelessly to seek all support available, to maximise income-generating activity and to develop multiple budget scenarios to help build a sustainable and realistic plan. We have used our mission to “power imagination through dance” to help sustain us through a period of challenge and change.

As well as reducing costs, we have offered a series of avoidance measures which have included reduced hours, pay freeze, sabbaticals, and voluntary severance.

  • Farewell to our beloved Patron and champion of the arts Sir Ken Robinson

    23 Aug 2020

Sir Ken was one of our most treasured supporters of our work at The Place and of dance, its place in the world and within life and humanity. Skilfully speaking on behalf of this 'always least respected discipline within the arts', he was one of the most influential and important advocators for the value of creativity in education, proficiently arguing for a wider perception of intelligence, ability and talent outside of the narrow concepts within formal education systems.

  • The Place Covid-19 update - 13 May

    13 May 2020

As ever, we are following the Government advice in order to play our part in stopping the spread of the Coronavirus. The health and well-being of our students, staff and visitors remain paramount. Following the Prime Minister’s address on Sunday 10 May and the subsequent related information, we have taken the decision to keep The Place building closed to the public until September at the earliest. This, unfortunately, means no on-site performances or classes. Please do not travel to our building as it will be closed and poses unnecessary risks. If you need to speak to someone about accessin
