Alumni news: National Dance Awards 2015 nominations announced

Alumni from London Contemporary Dance School at The Place are nominated for six awards.

The nominations for the National Dance Awards 2015 have been announced with London Contemporary Dance School alumni and current Work Place artists receiving nominations.

Nancy Nerantzi from Richard Alston Dance Company and London Contemporary Dance School alumus is nominated for the first time in Outstanding Female Performance (modern), for her role as Marie in Burning by Martin Lawrance.

Liam Riddick also from Richard Alston Dance Company is nominated for the fourth successive year, this time for his role in Martin Lawrance’s Burning.

In the Outstanding Male Performance (Modern) category, four of the six artists Igor Urzelai* and Moreno Solinas*, Liam Riddick and Ben Duke* and are all London Contemporary Dance School alumni.

Ben Duke appears in two categories; Best Male Performance (Modern) and also Best (Modern) Choreography both for Paradise Lost (lies unopened beside me) for Lost Dog, which was a hit show at Edinburgh Fringe this year, supported by The Place.

Igor Urzelai and Moreno Solinas are nominated for their performances in Idiot-Syncrasy which was also at the Edinburgh Fringe this year as part of The Place's Work Place artist showcase at Summerhall and the British Council showcase.

The Category for Best (Modern) Choreography also included Crystal Pite’s Polaris, which was performed a year ago at Sadler’s Wells as part of composer Thomas Ades’s special evening. 44 of the dancers were London Contemporary Dance School third year students, the other 19 being from Central School of Ballet, alongside the six professionals from Crystal Pite’s company Kidd Pivot.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on 25 January 2016.
