One Dance UK, the sector support organisation leading the way to a stronger, more vibrant and diverse dance sector, founded the inaugural One Dance UK awards last year to give the dance community a platform and an opportunity to recognise, celebrate and reward its own heroes, the outstanding professionals and practitioners who are working in dance.
The second acclaimed One Dance UK Awards ceremony took place in Manchester on 9 November. Hosted by Jonzi D, the dance community saluted the outstanding contribution of people working in dance across the UK. A panel of expert judges, drawn from the dance sector, reviewed thousands of nominations to arrive at a shortlist of nominees for each category.
Unlike most awards that focus mainly on performers or creators, the 24 Award Categories of the One Dance UK Awards span all the vital work that is taking place on stage as well as behind the scenes that shapes the dance sector today, with special honours given to teachers, community practitioners, dance writers or researchers amongst others.
To celebrate our 50th anniversary this year, The Place sponsored the Dance Personality of the Year award, which our Artistic Director Eddie Nixon presented to Andrew Self.
We are proud of our Physical Support Team at London Contemporary Dance School, who won the Dance Healthcare Team Award for the second year in a row. We are also very proud of our Programming Team who were nominated for Best Theatre Programming among a list of strong nominees.
Congratulations to all One Dance UK winners and nominees!
