Created for beginners, this course is an introduction to the south Indian classical dance form of Bharatanatyam. This spring term, sessions will be devised by Shivaangee Agrawal and delivered by a team of Bharatanatyam artists, giving participants the opportunity to discover the rich multiplicity of UK-based artistic practices within this dance form. Through a series of in-person classes and remote lecture-demonstration sessions, participants will delve into the fundamentals of movement technique, storytelling and gestural traditions, the use of music and rhythm, the history of bharatanatyam and the socio-political context of current practice in the UK.
Written and digital course materials are also provided, and a schedule of artists and session themes will be provided here shortly.
