• Remembering Bob Lockyer OBE

    “Everyone at The Place is sad to hear of the passing of one of dance's devoted pioneers Bob Lockyer who has worked alongside us many times over many years,” says The Place’s Artistic Director Eddie Nixon. Bob was an extraordinary champion of both UK contemporary dance and screendance, and inspired swathes of artists and choreographers across the world during his lifelong, illustrious career.

  • London Contemporary Dance School to present at SWEAT Hong Kong International Dance Festival

    Faculty and students from London Contemporary Dance School, part of the UK’s leading centre for dance education and performance The Place, have been invited to present and participate in SWEAT Hong Kong International Dance Festival which runs online from 17 – 25 June 2022. The school is one of 15 dance institutions that have been exclusively selected to participate in the sector-leading festival.


  • Andrea Barzey joins The Place as Head of Widening Participation and Recruitment

    The Place is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrea Barzey, who joins London Contemporary Dance School in the newly created role of Head of Widening Participation and Recruitment. 

    In this role Andrea will be responsible for the development and implementation of the student recruitment strategy in the UK and internationally, working with national partners to ensure healthy and diverse recruitment nationally and globally.

    This summer, The Place, London’s leading centre for dance and performance, welcomes the 2022 cohort of Choreodrome artists to its building. Choreodrome is one of the most important dance development programmes in the UK, enabling artists to explore new territories and have access to different strands of support. It’s part of The Place’s range of development opportunities designed to nurture talent and facilitate the growth of independent artists’ creativity and sustainability.

  • RAD's Step into Dance joins forces with The Place and Rambert with aims to widen access to careers in dance

    Step into Dance today announced two new partnerships with both The Place and Rambert, with aims to widen access to pursuing dance as a career. Throughout April, young people will come together for an exciting and enriching ‘Day of Dance’. School groups from the Step into Dance programme will visit professional dance studios for a day of workshops, performances and feedback sessions led by The Place or Rambert, with aims to show the young dancers a route to pursue dance professionally. 


  • A Festival of Korean Dance returns to The Place for a fifth year

    Returning to The Place for a fifth year from 17 - 25 June, A Festival of Korean Dance showcases a programme comprising four women choreographers at the cutting edge of Korean dance culture. Having built a following among audiences and critics, the festival features returning artists Jinyeob Cha and Bora Kim as well as UK debuts from Soo Hyun Hwang and Yun Jung Lee.


  • Stephanie De’Ath appointed Head of Dance Science at London Contemporary Dance School

    The Place, one of London’s leading centres for dance performance, creation and training, is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephanie De’Ath as the new Head of Dance Science. 

    Formerly the Head of Student Welfare at London Studio Centre, Stephanie has worked in the dance science field for nearly a decade and takes over from Kim Hutt as Head of Dance Science at London Contemporary Dance School.
