Richard Alston’s first choreography premiered in 1968. Now, 50 years (and over 140 dances) later, he celebrates this landmark with Mid Century Modern, drawing on the five decade span of his work.
The triple bill includes Carnaval, with Schumann’s music played live by pianist Jason Ridgway. This, Alston’s latest dance revels in the long lasting inspiration of Frederick Ashton’s work on Richard Alston. Intricate steps of a flowing grace depict the lyricism of Schumann’s pianistic masterpiece.
Martin Lawrance’s brand new work for the whole company Cut and Run is a fast moving maze of movement to a dark driving score, conjuring a world of shadows and swift changes.
The evening will end with a journey through each decade of Alston’s career, featuring sections from Rainbow Bandit, Dutiful Ducks, Signal of a Shake, Proverb, Gypsy Mixture and Syrinx; a brand new solo for BBC Young Dancer 2015 finalist Vidya Patel.
