Class Description:
This course will give you the skills, tools and confidence to dance and improvise with others while developing a creative and reflective mind. Co-creating a playful and safe space for experimentation and exploration, these classes draw from somatic practices, Contact Improvisation, and a broad range of improvisation approaches.

Each class starts with solo warm-ups, exploring a specific theme such as: the developmental patterns, relationship to music and dance, moving with breath, connecting to the skin as surface, to the body as a volume, playing with gravity, falling, rolling or sliding …

Some classes will integrate some basic movement patterns to create a common vocabulary: floor-based patterns, inversions, rolls. This will be followed by explorations in duets and trios across the space and in various configurations.

The last part of the class will be dedicated to group improvisation, being both movers/creators and observers.

Please note: You must have at least one year of dance experience to attend this class.

Level Information:

  • Recommended if you have about a year’s experience in dance or other movement practices
  • Building an understanding of alignment, space in and around the body, and movement opportunities in relation to self and others.
  • You can expect to explore various movement tasks both on your own and in smaller groups.
