After overwhelmingly positive reactions to our online programme of streamed full length dance performances, launched on 30 April, we are please to announce more shows that audiences can enjoy online from home.
Eddie Nixon, Artistic Director of The Place says:
“Dance has an amazing power to uplift and to connect, and our work at The Place is to bring people from around the world together through dance. We can’t do that physically at the moment but streaming some of our most exciting dance performances of the past few years will allows us to reach across the distance and give people who enjoy dance the chance to still feel connected with their artform, their peers and the wider dance community.”
Igor x Moreno - BEAT
Thu 21 May, 7pm (available until Fri 22 May, 10pm)
BEAT as a celebration of the fatigue, pain and uncertainty of deciding day by day – moment by moment – who we are. One person. This captivating performance is driven by a live DJ set and psychedelic light design.
"Cool, intelligent, thought-provoking, BEAT excels because of its fantastic creative team and its absolute superstar, Margherita Elliot (dancer)." ★★★★★ DanceTabs
Set within a South London hair-salon called BE U Tiful, The Head Wrap Diaries gives you front row seats to watch, interact with and be immersed in a journey from childhood to the present day, told through a unique blend of house, waacking and vogue fused with African and contemporary dance, accompanied by a specially commissioned soundtrack of Afro house, folk, electronic dance music, jazz and Ghana gospel. Three fierce, clever and witty female characters take us through stories of community, heritage, womanhood, friendship, and most importantly, hair.
“Here is a work that is engaging, authentic, culturally rooted and beautifully danced" - Ian Abbott, Writing About Dance
Filmed at the British Council Showcase in Edinburgh 2017, Dickens’ Oliver Twist is seen in a new light, as Tony Adigun’s Avant Garde Dance flips our expectations of five familiar characters in this untold story of a notorious and complex villain. Touring nationally and internationally ever since, it imagines Fagin’s youth, driven by greed and ambition in the face of overwhelming poverty. The streets are a place of little comfort and fairy-tale endings are hard to find in this poignant coming-of-age dance theatre presented in unmatched hip hop contemporary style.
“Fagin’s Twist, is a daring, dynamic and hugely enjoyable rethink of a much loved Victorian tale.” ★★★★ The Times, Debra Craine
Requardt and Rosenberg - DeadClub™

One of the UK's leading independent live performance producer Fuel, and The Place, are delighted to give online audiences a rare chance to experience Frauke Requardt and David Rosenberg's "mindblowingly weird" (- Time Out) DeadClub™.
This "part cabaret, part funeral ceremony, part end-of-the-world party" (- The Guardian), about death and the afterlife was created from research into memory distortion following traumatic events. Using dance, theatre, music, riddles and unforgettable set and costume design, this riotous show will perplex and toy with you in the best of ways, and leave you thinking long after it ends, you'd be mad to miss it!
"one of the most enjoyably baffling productions I’ve seen in ages" - ★★★★ Guardian
"Superbly surreal dance theatre" - ★★★★★ The Stage
"Mindblowingly weird" - ★★★★ Time Out
