Professional Development & Resources

"Brilliant... a massive creative confidence boost" - CPD participant

The Place is passionate about teaching and learning, and we like nothing better than to share what we know and what we’re currently exploring. Our courses and workshops are popular, effective and affordable. We offer training in your school setting in sessions of 1.5 hours upwards, starting at £350 for up to 20 members of staff. Subjects for teachers include:

  • The Basics – an introduction to teaching dance in primary schools
  • Refresh your dance practice: creative ideas for working with students of all ages
  • Creating successful cross-curricular dance lessons

We are always happy to design a course, INSET day or staff development session to your requirements. If you’d like to discuss bringing professional development sessions into your school, including whole staff training days/twilight workshops, please contact learning@theplace.org.uk

Resources

We produce printed and digital resources for dance education, and offer inspiring professional development for teachers and dance artists.

Dance Quest Resource for Teachers
This resource contains everything you need to teach dance, including warm ups, games and choreographing, as well as developing, evaluation and performing. Designed for non-dance specialists, but with plenty of ideas to inspire the seasoned dance teacher too.

We also share learning resources produced by our visiting companies to help you make the most of your visit to the theatre or to contact them to arrange a workshop in your school/college.

If you are reviewing a show as part of your Arts Award, you can download a free review workbook

A Dance Ecosystem

Something we’ve been exploring in the Creative Teaching and Learning team is the idea of dance education as an ecosystem.
