Surf The Wave is a ground-breaking programme created to provoke a change in how dance is toured in the UK. Through a series of events including a four-day showcasing opportunity, this project aims to create a wave of new thinking and initiate new opportunities for dance.
PDSW is hosting Surf The Wave between 2017 and 2020. It starts with an eighteen-month programme (October 2017 to May 2019) of talent development and artist support involving artists, producers and programmers (including those new to dance) around the UK.
The UK Dance Showcase itself ran from 16-19 May 2019. Following the Showcase, there will be a year’s programme of touring and development support to help realise tour bookings and strengthen artist/programmer relationships stemming from the Showcase.
The Place is a partner on Surf The Wave, working with Pavilion Dance South West, DanceXchange, Yorkshire Dance and South East Dance.
Eighty-five percent of Surf the Wave costs are supported by Arts Council England’s Ambition for Excellence fund, Jerwood Charitable Foundation and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. Further support comes from the National Dance Network, DanceXchange, South East Dance, The Place and Yorkshire Dance.
