The Place's theatre programme presents around 150 performances of professional contemporary dance works each year. The programme is organised into seasons of curated work and events, including annual events like spring season, Fresh and Something Happening for Kids, one-off seasons and presentations of touring works from UK and international companies. The theatre also hosts regular performances from The Place's resident dance company - Richard Alston Dance Company - and performance works created by the students of The Place's London Contemporary Dance School.
The overall programme is devised by the theatre director, Eddie Nixon and producer Ellie Beedham, together with colleagues. Collectively, it forms a diverse representation of work from London, the UK, Europe, and sometimes further afield. Companies appear by invitation, and proposals should be sent to the director. A few works are offered small commissions. One substantial part of our annual programme Resolution! is open to application from choreographers.
