We are 50

We are 50

From September 2019 - July 2020, we are celebrating 50 years of powering imagination through dance.

Our celebratory activity is designed to spark conversations and we hope you will join us in discussion, as we shine a light on our programme of performances, professional and recreational education, and artist development activity looking to the future whilst nodding at the past.

In this section you will find:

  • videos, articles, blog posts inviting you to explore some of the big questions at the heart of our art-form: what is a contemporary idea?  why do we dance?  what is the future of dance?
  • a list of YOUR #BestPlaceMoments - short anecdotes celebrating experiences and memories of The Place. Contribute yours in the form below.
  • archive videos of The Place and London Contemporary Dance School spanning the past 5 decades.
  • our history.
  • highlight events.

If you visit The Place, make sure to pop by the theatre bar where you can see an exhibiton of posters from The Place, London Contemporary Dance School and London Contemporary Dance Theatre from 1969 to 2019.

To get involved in our celebratory year, send us ideas, memories, photos, comments etc. email celebrate@theplace.org.uk.

Your Best Place Moment

Your Best Place Moment

Share your memories with us to help us celebrate what dance means to you. We are after any small or big moments you have experienced with us, be it tasting delicious cake in our cafe, attending a life-affirming class or performance, or spotting a celeb in our theatre...we want to hear your story whatever it is.

This will be shared in a year-long social media campaign  #BestPlaceMoments. Your memories will then be used to inspire a commissioned visual artwork to be displayed in the building in summer 2020.
