As part of A Festival of Korean Dance 2020 | Online Edition in partnership with London's Korean Cultural Centre, we invited young people aged between 12-19 years old to participate in a free online K-Pop dance workshop with choreographer Joong-Ha Park. Joong-Ha taught participants key principles of K-Pop choreography as well as a dance phrase from K-Pop girl band sensation LUNARSOLAR's music video for their hit single OH YA YA YA!.
We encouraged participants to send in videos of themselves doing the LUNARSOLAR moves as well as their own choreography. We were delighted to receive so many wonderful submissions, which we used to create K-Pop Together! a dance film accompanied by LUNARSOLAR's OH YA YA YA!.
Shuffle has been exploring the theme of change over a series of weeks and months, through movement in their home spaces. They have embodied movements from each other and tried them out in their own bodies and own spaces. The film also investigates how our spaces have housed a myriad of feelings and content from delusional boredom to our personal dance studios. The final film documents their work in a period of time where change feels both huge and subtle at the same time.
Shuffle is The Place's youth dance company for young people aged 9-14 years. The company is led by artistic director Ihsaan De Banya, who works collaboratively with the group to create new dance pieces that are performed throughout the year. Click HERE to find out more about Shuffle.
Shift’s dance film was inspired by the question Can you see what I feel?. The dancers explored movement relating to words describing feeling and played with how these feelings are witnessed through the screen. This film is a digital documentation of those embodied emotions, thoughts, and sensations.
Shift is The Place's youth dance company for young people aged 14-19 years. The company is led by rehearsal director Lucy Evans, who supports the group throughout their own choreographic project, in working with external artists and choreographers, and in rehearsing work ready for performances.
