Marie teaches a joyful yet challenging class that is tailored to the individual needs of the participating dancers. Using the principles of Limon technique her class utilises the use of weight and breath to encourage movement that works with the body rather than against it.
After graduating with a first class BA (Hons) in Dance Studies from Middlesex University in 2001, Marie joined Loop Dance Company as a dancer. She has since toured works by choreographers including; Yael Flexer, Jonzi D,, Annie Lok and Joss Arnott. She has collaborated on a number of large scale community projects working with a range of people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to produce high quality performance pieces. Recent projects include co-directing The Little Witch intergenerational project for The Place, London and a British Council funded community music and dance project in Kathmandu, Nepal. Marie has a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and Qualified Teacher Status and is a Dance Lecturer at Canterbury Christ Church University where she teaches Dance Pedagogy.
Level 1 classes are for participants with some knowledge of contemporary dance and over a years’ dance experience. You will look at a more developed dance vocabulary and a greater sense of body awareness in the space. Classes will work with longer phrases aimed at increasing physicality, performativity and musicality. Working with a more codified structure, you will prepare the body for an increase in activity throughout the class.
Level 2 provides more challenging phrases and movements that incorporate multiple exercises and movement. Not only will you develop your technical knowledge but you will also begin to introduce performativity into your practice allowing for greater expression. Alongside this your body will develop an increased physicality including core strength and balance; allowing you to have greater movement efficiency. You will also be encouraged to work more with the live music and given freedom to play with timings and counts.
