The Kids Are Alright is a surreal and confronting new work from cult duo Encounter, combining dance and new writing, participation and performance, children and adults.

When a day trip to the Natural History Museum turns to tragedy, one family is left as hollow as the cold bones of the blue whale. At home, they attempt to make sense of the unimaginable in ways as unpredictable as the incident itself.

At the same time, with sound protective headphones and in an auditory world of their own, children storm the stage with a mandate for change.

Smashing two restricted worlds into one radical show, children and adults attempt to come to terms with their lives spinning out of control.

In their unique, experimental style, Encounter shed light on the state that we are in and ask what happens when generations collide in a battle where hope and despair fight for centre stage?

About Encounter:
Encounter makes work about (extra) ordinary events, ideas and people. The company is committed to creating innovative performance with dance and new writing, working in collaboration with both trained and untrained performers from a range of communities.

Their most recent show, I Heart Catherine Pistachio was developed at Live Theatre, premiered at Soho Theatre, toured nationally and ended with a week run at The Yard, London.

In 2017 Encounter began working with Fuel on two new projects: The Kids Are Alright and Deaf Choir.

“Crushing sentimentality through a meat-grinder and spewing it over crusty, vicious suburbia, I Heart Catherine Pistachio hits out of nowhere and hits hard. It’s a comic atrocity determined to throw its audience wildly off kilter, and it succeeds with harrowing aplomb” I Heart Catherine Pistachio, Stewart Pringle, Exeunt Magazine ★★★★

"Cult Show’" - Lyn Gardner, Guardian on I Heart Catherine Pistachio

“This company make it their mission to open the doors of exposure on normal people” - A Younger Theatre
