An intensive week of classes for vocational and professional level dancers: £100
Each day will begin with a Hatha yoga morning practice incorporating breathing techniques (pranayama), steady postures (asanas), and relaxation (savasana). Claire encourages a mindful approach, working in a non-competitive environment in order to discover a more personal exploration of yoga sequencing.
The class will be followed by a short break and a study session, delving into other elements of yoga. You will have time to play with bodywork and partnering techniques; discuss yoga history and philosophy; deepen your practice with pranayama and meditation; open the voice with chanting; consider the use of affirmations, and share questions and ideas as a group. The aim of the workshop is to find how yoga can be useful, inspiring and liberating in daily life, especially for dancers who want to take care of their bodies and create longevity within a career in the dance sector.
This course is suitable for vocational and professional level dancers as well as yoga students with an intermediate practice.
Please note: this course is not suitable for beginners.
Claire first encountered yoga during an eighteen-year career as a professional dancer and rehearsal director with leading choreographers and companies across Europe, including Wayne McGregor, Rui Horta, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Charles Linehan and Clod Ensemble. It was during this period that she developed her understanding of yoga to strengthen performance potential, health and a general sense of wellbeing. She has studied many styles of yoga in India and Europe and holds a Yoga Alliance teaching qualification; a Japanese Bodywork certification from The European School of Shiatsu; and an MA in Contemporary Dance from London Contemporary Dance School. Claire is currently a freelance yoga teacher, Rehearsal Director, and Lecturer at London Contemporary Dance School (postgraduate programme). She also enjoys teaching regular yoga classes in South East London.
