Bodies In Action - IMPOSTER

The work in question revolves around the idea of never being good enough, which unfortunately effects the creative minds of artists of all realms, dancers, and LGBTQIA+ people who are coming to terms with their identity. Within such a competitive world in terms of business, physical attributes, social media, we have become a species that becomes overwhelmed with questioning our successes.

Duration: 20mins

Laura Calcagno - Winter Tears

An autobiographical exploration of memories, feelings and lies, this solo tells a story of uncertainty, distress and bittersweet emotions. It explores what it feels like to have someone question your own perception of reality and takes the audience through a nostalgic and melancholic journey. Fear, confusion and passion to a unique soundtrack composed by millacu.

Content Warning: Explicit language

Duration: 20mins

Tough Boys Dance Collective - DJ as Witness

DJ as Witness is a simmering collection of club snapshots, from the seething intensity of the dancefloor to the all consuming intimacy of the smoking area. If you’ve ever wanted to take the disco ball home with you, this is the clubber’s pocket guide to everyday euphoria. Using contemporary movement with hip hop influences, this high intensity trio is driven by the power of the DJ’s electronic sound and charged bodies to venture into a textured club landscape. Tough Boys Dance Collective is a queer led dance theatre collective working to create multidisciplinary works that centre around celebrating authentic queer experiences through bold and unique aesthetics.

Supported by Trinity Laban's Conservatoire of Music and Dance's Innovation Award

Age Restriction: 16+

Duration: 20mins

About the artists

Bodies In Action ~ enGendering Contemporary Dance
Bodies in Action ~ enGendering Contemporary Dance based in East London is a Community Interest Company dance organisation founded by dancer and choreographer Julian Nichols. As a company, we strive to provide audiences and communities with engaging contemporary dance by hosting different classes, workshops, organized discussions, and performances. We aim to bridge the gap by including and exposing those who identify along or on the ends of the gender spectrum by challenging conventional gender roles that are the dominant factor of contemporary dance now. As physical bodies, we share our perspective through the lens of a simple, yet revolutionary idea: we stand and encourage people to live in their authentic skin without succumbing to societal pressures of conformity. The gender spectrum, as well as sexual orientation, has become polarizing in recent times, yet we, in the end, are all human. To this end, Bodies in Action promotes equality among all despite gender identity, race, age, sexual orientation, body type, and physical ability through both creations and diversity of the company.
